Since the Ibero-American Handicraft Museum of Tenerife started the School Didactics in 2010, one of its objectives is to bring together the artisan reality and all that it implies to our students through an educational project with itineraries and didactic workshops adapted to the level of the participants.
This educational project has been consolidated with the course of the campaigns, increasing the number of students and schools attended as well as the degree of satisfaction of the same. Currently, we annually receive around 4000 students from different municipalities of the island.
Without leaving aside the Museum’s own Didactics, we want to continue with the dynamism challenge acquired last year, going out to meet our schoolchildren, through the accomplishment of a Regional Handicrafts Conference: «Tenerife and La Alfarería», contributing simultaneously to the research, conservation and dissemination of the Traditional Trades of Tenerife and the revitalization of Pottery Centers in active service.
The Regional Handicrafts Days will take into account the traditional craftsmanship of each municipality, so that starting from the concrete reality we get to know not only the own of each locality but also with a broader look, the artisan reality of our island paying special attention to the Traditional Trades, in particular to the Traditional Pottery of Tenerife.
This project is designed for students from the third cycle of Primary, to put into practice for a week and serving a total of 60 students per day. To be developed preferably in a Pottery Center or in a Municipal Craft Center.
For this, coordination and cooperative work will be necessary both with the Alfareros or Craft Centers as well as with the council of cultural education of each municipality where the conferences will be held.
The students will have a didactic booklet of support that will allow us to reinforce the knowledge acquired during the development of the day. We will also have an itinerant exhibition of Mait’s own funds that will help us make a comparison with the crafts of other Ibero-American communities.
The programming in these Municipal Crafts Days will consist of:
Municipal artisan reality
Local artisan testimony
Traditional Canary Pottery compared with the rest of Ibero-American countries.
Traveling Exhibition: «Ceramics in Ibero-America»
Traditional Pottery Workshop made by a craftsman.
